Researchers have now discovered that eating 40 grams of dark chocolate daily can lower levels of stress hormones in the body. A group of 30 highly stressed study participants were examined using sophisticated testing. The study revealed dark chocolate could have positive long term health benefits that include lower stress hormone levels, making the sweet treat a natural way to ease stress.

The new findings, published November 2009 in the Journal of Proteome Research also showed benefits associated with dark chocolate for boosting bacterial health in the intestines, in addition to easing stress.The study participants ate 20 grams of dark chocolate mid-morning, and 20 grams as a mid-afternoon snack. After two weeks, the health benefits for lowering stress biomarkers were discovered.
Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that are beneficial to health. The new study shows that in highly stressed individuals dark chocolate can lower harmful stress hormones that eventually lead to disease.

    Thanks Kathleen for the info. I like chocolates but these dark chocolates is something new for me. Wow, it has got so many health benefits. I think I should add it to my diet.

    I would want to know if this last or is temporary to initial period of eating dark chocolate regularly. many article have been proven to be too optimistic on some part since this was just helping to remove a lower level of some nutriment but after it is a good level putting more just don't add. keeping the level can sometimes be done with low quantity and for some where the level is already ok this is useless.

    But I like dark chocolate i will continue to eat it ;-)
