A Diet That Can Effectively Treat (Purge) Migraines

The general intent is quite clear, which involves making the determination of what causes an individual’s migraines, and then deciding how to avoid the problem causing culprits. To some, this may seem like a determination that should be fairly uncomplicated. However, it can get rather tricky when you literally need to take a magnified look at the triggers for these types of headaches, to determine why they surface.

The first thing that will need to be looked at is the individual’s diet, as it may include several elicitors that cause migraines. For example, both chocolate and alcohol are known culprits that can trigger migraines in people that commonly suffer from this condition.

Other triggers that can lead to migraines:
  • Food products that contain milk base, such as curds and cheese.
  • Beverages that contain alcohol
  • Migraine causesAspartame – A well known artificial sweetener that is used in a variety of different food products and beverages.
  • Food items and beverages that contain caffeine.
  • Food items that have been processed, such as bacon and salami.
  • Products that contain the chemical known as tyramine, and is formed when foods are aged. Some of these would include nuts, soy sauce, products that have went through a pickling process, and items that have been kept in the refrigerator for more than two days.
  • A product that contains MSG or monosodium glutamate, which is a generally used to enhance flavor and is generally found in readymade products.

Just because one person finds a specific culprit that triggers migraines, does not mean that the same response will happen to the next person. It can be very helpful to pay special attention to the food items you eat, taking notice to the ones that cause your migraines so they can be avoided in the future.

Now it is time to start the Purging Process

The pain caused from migraines can be curbed a great deal simply by avoiding all of the food items that you notice triggers a migraine. Knowing the hints of what causes your migraines is the first step to relieving the pain.

Some people find an exclusion diet to be very helpful. By removing various items from your diet for a month can help a great deal in making the determination of which foods may be causing the symptoms to arise.

It is especially beneficial to avoid tea, coffees, wines, and remove Chinese foods from the diet. It may even be easier if you choose to prepare your own meals because then you will know the exact ingredients that are used in the preparation. While dining out, you can also ask questions about specific ingredients that are used to prepare meals. Once you have gone through the elimination process, you can slowly begin to add foods back to the diet.

Re-Introducing Foods the Right Way

When re-introducing foods back into your diet, it is best to only select one item at a time, and only eating one serving of the re-introduced food. You should avoid  another serving of this item until approximately 5 days later, once you have had an adequate time to see if migraine symptoms will show up again. Continue this  routine until you have re-introduced all food items back into your regular diet.

For food items that show tendencies to cause a migraine, you might try eating this item in a smaller portion, and never consuming large amounts of the food item. To adequately achieve your goal of finding the culprits that are causing your migraines, it is imperative that you keep a record of your progress. Other factors that should also be recorded would include a lack of sleep, stress factors that may arise, tension, and even meals that have been missed. You will also want to record any type of medications that have shown to cause migraine headaches.

There are many people that notice a migraine when new foods have been introduced into their diet. There may be other factors causing this, such as when a woman is menstruating. Other factors that can help is to consume adequate amounts of dairy products, and to consume a sufficient amount of water to maintain good hydration.
