Osteoporosis is a condition which can affect you at any age and if literally translated it means porous bones. It is disease where the density and quality of your bones is reduced, and gradually the risk of fracture increases. The loss of bones occurs silently and there are no symptoms till the first fracture occurs.
The factors that affect bone health are genetics, diets lacking calcium and vitamin D and other essential nutrients, lack of physical activity, age, life style habits like smoking, excessive intake of alcohol.
Women at menopause, men with sedentary life, people on specific types of drugs and people who experience bone pains without any specific reason should take proper tests and seek doctor’s advice to keep away from Osteoporosis, because this is a silent disease and does not manifest unless there is a fracture. Even minor pains and aches in bones can indicate the signs of this painful disease.
It is imperative that one should start taking precautions as early as possible. Our bone strength is at its peak at the age of around 25 to 30 years, and then it decreases gradually. So, physical activity in childhood and early adulthood with a proper diet is important for good bone strength.
